In 2009, India TV has focussed on the perception of the channel and the need to pay attention to hard news once again. India TV’s Chairman & Editor-in-Chief Rajat Sharma explained that 2010 would be an even more important year for the company as India TV was coming up with at least two more channels, would be focussing on digital initiatives, including new websites, and would set up a television training institute as well. Times Now leads Election Day in Eng general news channels; CNN IBN follows?blur=25

The recently concluded Assembly Elections in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh did not significantly spike the ratings of the news genre, but that didn’t stop players in the genre to outdo each other. Amongst the English general news channels, Times Now garnered the most rating points on October 13, followed by CNN-IBN and NDTV 24x7. In the lower order, Headlines Today saw a significant jump in ratings on that day.

Aaj Tak has garnered the highest shares on Assembly Election day amongst the national Hindi general news channels in the mass C&S 15+ target, and the core news TG (C&S ABC 25+). However, a unified study from the MRUC and National Readership Studies Council is planned for 2010.
