India is on British ad agency Bartle Bogle Hegarty’s (BBH) top priority list, and even though the organisation has skipped one deadline, BBH is targeting the last quarter of 2008 to launch in India. BBH’s Worldwide CEO Simon Sherwood stated that with most plans in place now, the first official announcement from the company on its India plans could be expected in a month’s time.

Changes at Lowe India continue. In the last two months, three top executives have exited the organisation and Lowe is not looking for replacements. The other top executives have seen a change in their roles. SSC&B brand ceases to exist, as does the IMAG structure. While Pickle has SSC&B as a second agency, the brands under IMAG would be divided. Some IMAG brands would operate under the aegis of Lowe, while some would be groomed into standalone operations.

There are five from JWT, three from Meridian, three from Leo Burnett, and one each from Contract, Rediffusion DYR and McCann Erickson. Day 3 saw a spree of Bronzes going to India which, after a Grand Prix, seem slightly less exciting. Indian agencies however are gung-ho about the Press Lions, the winner of which would be announced on Wednesday, June 18. Expectations are high from the Design category as well. The third day of Cannes Lions 2008 saw the winners of three categories announced. India won three Bronze in Outdoor Lions, two Bronze in Media Lions, and one Bronze in Radio Lions. This takes the total metal tally to ten already – two short of what India won last year through the festival. The advertising fraternity now awaits the results of Press Lions, Films Lions, Cyber and Design.

There are 33 Indian entries that have made it to the Press Lions, with Leo Burnett having the highest with eight shortlisted entries; O&M and Cheil have five each; JWT India has four; McCann Erickson and Saatchi & Saatchi, three each; and Grey, Contract and Mudra, one each. There are five Indian entries shortlisted for the Radio Lions: three from TBWA\India and two from Mudra.

The Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival 2008 began on June 15, and it is bigger than the previous years – at least in terms of the Indian delegates that have travelled all the way to the South of France to attend the Festival this year. From the 130 last year, the number of Indian delegates this year has gone up to 225-plus. Quite a few Indian delegates were seen on the first day of the Festival.

The topics varied from contextual video advertising to more on the web and to what it means to be a media communications company.
