Maxus has won some more from the Hero Group. In addition to Hero Honda and Hero Cycles, Maxus has now added Hero Electric to its kitty. The move wasn’t preceded by any pitch process. Industry sources peg the business to be in the vicinity of Rs 20 crore.

aMap has thrown a record high for the final match of the DLF IPL T20 series. aMap shows that a total of 24 million people watched the DLF IPL T20 final match. The two semi-final matches too have shown some good numbers. TAM Media Research’s radio arm Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) is embarking on a pilot to gauge listenership through phone meters, and study whether listeners are conducive to this methodology. Radio players believe that electronic meters are a step in the right direction, but the cost implication does not make it viable for a market like India.

Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) is set to upgrade itself some more. TAM Media Research, RAM’s parent company, is working on amalgamating AdEx data with listenership data to assist radio executives at the planning level. In another step towards upgradation, RAM also intends to conduct a pilot with phone meters in India in the last quarter of 2008.

The inaugural DLF IPL T20 has busted several myths and proved to be a case study for the Indian media and advertising fraternity. Defying all criticisms regarding the format, the Indian Premier League has scored high on ratings. Even as the semi-finals and the finals numbers aren’t here yet, the last ball fight before Rajasthan Royals got the winning run promises some good numbers coming from the crunch matches as well. As for the advertisers on the series, ‘the script couldn’t be better’.

The Aditya Birla Group’s corporate management has decided to do away with the multi-agency system, and move towards a consolidated media agency of record. A three-staged pitch process was called for this, but it got reduced to a single round of credential presentations, and the decision is in the favour of MindShare India. Idea Cellular is not a part of this pitch process. There is also no clarity yet whether Madura Garments and UltraTech would align with the single media AoR proposition.

There seems no end to the woes of print research, and neither do the complaints from the print industry. At a time when nothing definite is forthcoming on the NRS, and the IRS is bereft of too many votes, the Media Research Users’ Council (MRUC) has approached the Indian Newspapers Society (INS) to recommend a joint task force that can develop a white paper for contemporary print research. The INS is yet to revert to MRUC on this.

Even though ‘Paanchvi Pass’ has not grown any further from the 2 to 3 TRP, Star Plus has distanced itself further from Zee TV. In the next rung, 9X has had another good week and is at No. 3 position amongst the Hindi GECs for an all-day data.

The NAB Show 2008 is over, and for many present there, irrespective of the number of times that they have been there before, the scale of the event was overwhelming. And there were several points that the Indian media industry got to bring back from the event. The Indian media industry can also take heart that it has become important enough for the international community to have a Super Session devoted to it at the Show this year.

P&G India’s media review results are out. The MediaCom-Madison Media combine has won the business. The account size is pegged between Rs 250 crore and Rs 300 crore. The other agencies in the fray were Starcom Worldwide and Carat. Also, Sam Balsara has acquired 51 per cent stake in MediaCom India. With this, P&G India business would be parked in MediaCom.
