Madurai, often described as the political capital of Tamil Nadu, will get a taste of private FM broadcast soon. Entertainment Network India Ltd promoted Radio Mirchi is slated for launch in the city around February next year, according to sources close to the development. Radio Mirchi will also be launched in Coimbatore around the same time.

Grey Worldwide, Chennai has been assigned the creative duties for Crocodile, a Singapore-based apparels brand. The account size is pegged in the region of Rs 3 crore. The incumbent agency, IB&W, which has been handling both creative and media duties, will continue to handle the media duties of Crocodile Products Pvt Ltd.

After spending little over a year with Chennai-based Radaan Mediaworks, Roy Joseph has rejoined Zee News as Vice-president, Operations from November 17. Prior to joining Radaan Mediaworks, Joseph had been with Zee News since 1995 and was part of the team that brought out the first news bulletin from Zee in 1995.

In a bid to further strengthen its presence in the southern states, Zee Telefilms Ltd has promoted R Ajay Kumar as Head, South Initiatives of Zee Network. Prior to his new assignment, Kumar was Business Head of South Channels. In his new assignment, Kumar will be independently heading the critical distribution business of all the 32 Zee and Turner Channels in the four southern states.

Foreseeing a tough contest ahead, several existing stations are chalking out strategies to take the bull by the horns while others say they would cross the bridge when they come to it.

Strategic Publicity & Advertising Company, an Indian-owned, Bahrain-based company is venturing into the FM radio space in Bahrain from November 4. Christened Voice FM 104.2, the FM station has the tagline ‘Positive voice’. It would commence operations with a two-hour show at launch and become a 24-hour station by November 15.

South India has been witnessing heightened FM activity of late. The latest to join the bandwagon is the Muthoot Group, which will be launching its FM station in Chennai in January. The Group had won a license for Chennai in the second phase of FM expansion.

Malayalam Communications Ltd, owner of two popular Malayalam satellite TV channels, Kairali TV and People TV, will be launching another channel early next year. The new channel, christened Youth TV, would air a mix of content targeting the youth, revealed John Brittas, Managing Director, Malayalam Communications.

Radio One, a Mid-Day Multimedia and BBC Worldwide venture, is slated to launch in Chennai in November this year. The channel has appointed John Vijay as Programming Director. Radio One has already launched its FM stations in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore and is expected to become operational in Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Pune shortly.

After venturing into the Middle East, the US, Canada and Australia, Amrita TV will now be available in European countries. The Malayalam satellite channel has inked an agreement with Terra Group, London which would carry the channel via Hotbird, and deliver round-the-clock programmes and news in the European countries.

The FM station has appointed Farida Kaliyadan as Associate VP and Station Head, while actor Upendra has been roped in as the brand ambassador.

Tamil satellite channel Jaya TV has launched ‘Mayavi’, touted as the first 3D serial on Indian television. The serial hit the airwaves on October 2. ‘Mayavi’, which has been produced by Chennai-based production house G V Films, will be aired on Saturdays at 9-9.30 pm.

‘Jodi No 1’, the Tamil version of popular celebrity dance show ‘Nach Baliye’, is all set to kick off on Vijay TV from October 6. The show, which will be on air on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 pm, features four real life and four reel life couples from TV. The channel has roped in dance master Kala, actor Prashanth and actress Ramya Krishnan as judges.
