All India Radio has been elected as a member of the Administrative Union of Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU). At an election held at the 43rd General Assembly of the ABU at Beijing, AIR was elected for a two-year term to the 14-member Administrative Council, which functions as the Executive of the premier broadcasting union in the world.

Strategic Publicity & Advertising Company, an Indian-owned, Bahrain-based company is venturing into the FM radio space in Bahrain from November 4. Christened Voice FM 104.2, the FM station has the tagline ‘Positive voice’. It would commence operations with a two-hour show at launch and become a 24-hour station by November 15.

South India has been witnessing heightened FM activity of late. The latest to join the bandwagon is the Muthoot Group, which will be launching its FM station in Chennai in January. The Group had won a license for Chennai in the second phase of FM expansion.

Just three months after its launch, Radio City Chennai is going for a makeover. The channel’s programming content, which was predominantly Tamil till October 27, will now be 70 per cent in English and Hindi, and the rest in Tamil.

Radio One, a Mid-Day Multimedia and BBC Worldwide venture, is slated to launch in Chennai in November this year. The channel has appointed John Vijay as Programming Director. Radio One has already launched its FM stations in Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore and is expected to become operational in Kolkata, Ahmedabad and Pune shortly.

After hitting the airwaves in three major radio markets – Delhi, Hyderabad and Chennai – Big FM 92.7, the radio venture of Reliance ADAG’s Adlabs Radio, will go on air in Bangalore next week. The FM station has appointed Farida Kaliyadan as Associate VP and Station Head, while actor Upendra has been roped in as the brand ambassador.

TDSAT has completed the hearing of the case filed by Radio Mid Day against the Union Government and Adlabs Radio regarding the frequency allocation policy of the Government as per which it had been displaced from its previous 92.5 FM allocated under Phase I and has been allocated 94.3 FM for five stations.
