Big FM has announced its plan to search for the next Bollywood star through a reality hunt over its airwaves. The show, titled ‘Big Break’, would be on-air exclusively on Big FM and the station has invited entries from various cities across the country.

The Association of Radio Operators of India (AROI) at its first annual general meeting in the Capital on Tuesday has decided to conduct the elections for its general body in the last week of January 2007. Uday Chawla, General Manager, India Today Group, has been appointed as Returning Officer for the elections.

Chennai is all set to have another FM station hitting its airwaves soon – Aahaa FM, the radio venture of Kumudam Publications Pvt Ltd. Aahaa FM would be an out and out entertainment channel targeting young Chennai audience. The Tamil weekly major has appointed Chennai-based creative shop WOC as its creative partner for the new channel.

Madurai, often described as the political capital of Tamil Nadu, will get a taste of private FM broadcast soon. Entertainment Network India Ltd promoted Radio Mirchi is slated for launch in the city around February next year, according to sources close to the development. Radio Mirchi will also be launched in Coimbatore around the same time.

The Delhi High Court has prohibited Hello FM of Malar Publications from playing music without obtaining a license from the Indian Performing Right Society Ltd (IPRS). This order would technically mean that the Hello FM radio station would either have to stop broadcast or obtain a licence, or both.

Entertainment Network India Ltd promoted Radio Mirchi has migrated to a single frequency – 98.3 FM – across all its currently running 10 stations in India after it shifted to the single frequency in Ahmedabad, Indore and Pune. The FM channel had earlier this year moved to 98.3 FM frequency in Bangalore, Jaipur and Hyderabad.

After a long battle by NGOs and Civil Society bodies, the Union Cabinet on Thursday approved a new Community Radio policy allowing non-profit organisations to set up community radio stations (CRS) as recommended by the I&B Ministry and subsequently cleared by the Group of Ministers (GoM) headed by Sharad Pawar.

Bhaskar Group’s first FM station, MYFM in Jaipur, has moved from its existing frequency 106 to its new frequency 94.3. The station has initiated a ground level ‘Kaan marodo’ campaign that asks people to tweak the ‘kaan’ (radio dial) and tune in to the new frequency.
