Deepesh Jha, who has been with Rediffusion Y&R as Executive Creative Director and Branch Creative Head at their Delhi office, has decided to bid adieu to the agency, according to senior sources in the industry. Jha has been successfully leading their largest client Airtel for two years.
Shashank Gawade, who had earlier worked in GroupM Activation, has returned to the group. He has joined Maxus as Client Leader - Brand Activation. In his new role, Gawade will be responsible for closely working with business teams to incubate and fast track brand activation projects for Maxus clients across the country.
In a bid to strengthen the creative team at its Delhi office, Contract Advertising has hired two senior hands – Aneesh Jaisinghani as Creative Director and Associate Vice-President and Sambit Mishra as Creative Director. The two had been working together as a team since 2005 till recently, when Mishra had moved to Ogilvy from Cheil Worldwide.
Just a month after launching their digital division ‘Proximity’, BBDO India has announced another significant hire. Nagessh Pannaswami has joined the agency as Head of the Mumbai operation. He moves from McCann Worldgroup, where he was leading ‘Altitude’. Pannaswami will report to Ajai Jhala, CEO, BBDO India.
Times OOH’s Hemanth Shah is joining Lintas Media Group (LMG) as President, Out-of-Home Initiatives. His mandate would include the agency’s expansion into various out-of-home consumer spaces, including retail, events, transport, sports and outdoor. Shah will work closely with Aaren Initiative, LMG and Karishma Initiative leadership, and would report to Lintas Media Group Chairman & CEO Lynn de Souza. Shah is expected to assume office this week.
Gopal Krishnan has been roped in as Vice President for Mudra Delhi. He moves from Rediffusion Y&R, where he was Business Head for Airtel. This is Krishnan’s second stint with Mudra. He will be reporting to Ajay Naqvi , EVP Mudra and Head of Mudra North & East.
Ketan Desai is to head Grey Worldwide Delhi as Associate VP, Branch Head Delhi. He comes in from Grey Worldwide Mumbai, where he was Associate VP, Director, Client Servicing. In his new role, Desai will be reporting to Jishnu Sen, COO, Grey India.
JWT India has not taken the National Creative Director route yet, but the agency has made a significant appointment to its creative team in Adrian Miller. Miller has worked with Saatchi & Saatchi Malaysia, and last year was given the additional responsibility of the agency’s Singapore office. Miller quit Saatchi in March, and destination next for him is India. Miller joins JWT India on August 15 and would be based in Delhi.
Anil Fernandes, Vice President, INX Media, has put in his papers. He is joining India Today Group as Associate Publisher. This will be his second stint with the India Today Group, where he will report be reporting to Malcolm D Mistry, Publishing Director, India Today Mega Brand.
General Motors has effected some senior level promotions. Ankush Arora, Vice President, Sales, Aftersales and Marketing, has been made Vice President of GMDAT Domestic and Export Sales, Marketing and Aftersales, based in Korea. Gaurav Gupta has been promoted as Business Head – Commercial Vehicle Operations and Strategic Business Development. Sumit Sawhney now takes over the mantle of Head of Passenger Cars.
Diageo India has brought in Abanti Sankaranarayanan as Marketing Director. In her new role, Sankaranarayanan is responsible for brand building of global favourites like Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, VAT 69 and Ciroc. She has succeeded Santosh Kanekar in her new role at Diageo.

The Board of Directors of Zee News Ltd at its meeting held on July 5, 2010, inter alia, accepted the resignation of Laxmi N Goel as Managing Director of the company. Goel has also stepped down as a Non-Executive Director on the Board of the Company.
Anish Srikrishna has quit SpiceJet as Senior VP, Marketing. He is joining Pearson Education as Chief Marketing Officer. Pearson Education deals in integrated education and publishes titles spread across a wide spectrum of subjects, including business, technology, sciences, law and the humanities.
Prakash Dharmarajan, President, O&M Chennai, has called it a day at the organisation. Dharmarajan, who had joined O&M from Orchard Chennai in December 2006, has been heading the agency’s Chennai operations for more than three years. Confirming his movement to exchange4media, Dharmarajan said, “I am starting something on my own, which has got nothing to do with advertising.”
Saatchi & Saatchi has appointed Niharika Awal as Associate Creative Director. This is her second stint with the agency. Awal moves from Black Swan Life agency in Mumbai, where she was Creative Consultant. She has confirmed the development.
Sunil Punjabi, Senior Vice President - Business Development & New Media at Sony Entertainment Television, is moving on. He will be joining Cinemax as CEO of its exhibition business on July 12, 2010. An Engineering Graduate and MBA, Punjabi had joined Sony last year in June and was responsible for Business Development for Sports, Movie and Music TV channels. He was also heading the New Media, Telephony and Syndication divisions. Prior to joining Sony, Punjabi was heading Film Production & Distribution Strategy at Fox Star Studios India Pvt Ltd for two years. Punjabi had also played a key role in the inorganic growth strategy of Star TV for more than a year. He was also associated with Fashion TV, Zee TV and Fame India’s venture into multiplexes and theatrical distribution.
RC Venkateish has put in his papers at ESPN Star Sports as Managing Director after a seven-year stint with the company. During his tenure, the sports broadcasting network had acquired big ticket properties like ICC World, Champions League T20 and the soccer World Cup.
Les Margulis has decided to step down from his current role of President of RK Swamy Media Group/ Media Direction. Margulis is moving to Australia on account of some personal reasons. Stepping into his shoes will be Chintamani Rao, who had recently retired from Times Global Broadcasting. Both Srinivasan Swamy, Chairman, RK Swamy Hansa Group, and Margulis have confirmed the news to exchange4media.
