Zee TV has had an eventful year in 2009, having beaten Star Plus and Colors on occasions, and being seen as the only player that didn’t indulge in exorbitant investments in any of its disciplines. For Nitin Vaidya, COO, ZEEL, Zee TV was the No. 1 profitable channel in 2009. The channel plans to focus further on creating new slots, tightening story lines and becoming the No. 1 channel overall in 2010.

The India-Sri Lanka series has delivered good numbers for Neo Cricket, and the channel has now planned a host of below-the-line and digital marketing activities, along with traditional marketing, for the upcoming India-South Africa tour. The earmarked budget is approximately Rs 2.5 crore for this campaign. To further engage the audiences, the channel had also roped in Amitabh Bachchan to host the studio series, ‘Extra Cover’.

There is some restructuring afoot at UTV Global Broadcasting. It’s been two months since MK Anand took charge as CEO and his agenda now is to turn the focus on the media group’s sales function. As per the new structure, all the channels will have a dedicated sales head, who would report to the business heads and to the group sales head.

It is learnt from sources close to the development that Deepak Lamba is all set to join BloombergUTV as Business Head. He is currently serving his notice period as Director of Viacom Brand Solutions at MTV Networks India. Meanwhile, BloombergUTV is also on the lookout for a new sales head, who will be reporting to Lamba.

UTV Global Broadcasting has lined up a new brand campaign and is planning to spend close to Rs 25 crore on it. The media giant has roped in TapRoot to handle the creative duties, while Motivator will look after the media mandate. The campaign is expected to commence from January 2010 and continue for three months.

UTV Global Broadcasting is set to up the action ante on television with the launch of a new Hindi movie channel, UTV Action. The channel, which will go live from January 1, 2010, will showcase Bollywood and Hollywood action thrillers dubbed in Hindi. So confident is UTV about the action genre that it is expecting the new channel to open with nearly 30 GRPs.
