Speculation has been rife for sometime now regarding Global Broadcast News and Channel 7 being in the process of forming a joint venture. Both entities, however, have officially stated that they are in talks only to explore a possible strategic alliance that does not include equity discussion of any kind.

The Delhi High Court has held that restricting the publication of syndicated articles and features by foreign writers and journalists in various newspapers and magazines in India was against the freedom of speech and expression under the Fundamental Rights (Article 19) enumerated in the Constitution.

Financial daily Business Standard is in talks with NDTV to sign a content sharing deal with its business channel, NDTV Profit. Confirming the development, Business Standard, President, Akila Urankar, informed that the dialogue was still not at a stage where specific details around the relation could be divulged.

Initiative, Mumbai has a new head with the appointment of V S Mani as vice president. The task that was hitherto being handled by Initiative’s President, Kartik Iyer, will now be handled by Mani, who will report to Iyer. Mani takes charges from January 23, 2006.

In a landmark order, the Income-Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) held that as broadcast companies are liable to pay tax in India for the income generated in the country, the Hong Kong-based STAR group has to pay tax on the advertisement revenue from its various channels.

In a sudden top-level management reshuffle in Bennett, Coleman & Company Ltd (BCCL), Mahendra Swarup, CEO, Times Internet Ltd, has been temporarily shifted to oversee Private Treaties, which is a part of The Times Group’s Response division.
