More changes at India Today Group; Mohini Bhullar decides to move on after 40 years
In another change of guard at the India Today group, Mohini Bhullar has decided to move on as Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, effective September 30, 2010, after a long innings spanning over 40 years. It is not known where the media industry veteran is headed next.

In another change of guard at the India Today group, Mohini Bhullar has decided to move on as Executive Director, Corporate Affairs, effective September 30, 2010, after a long innings spanning over 40 years.
Bhullar’s movement comes close on the heels of some top level restructure at the India Today Group. As part of this restructure, veteran journalist MJ Akbar has come on board as Editorial Director of India Today (English) and India Today (International) and their extensions, while Prabhu Chawla is moving into a new editorial and corporate role as Editor (languages) and CEO of a new special business unit to focus on Indian language publishing.
Bhullar had come on board with the group company Thomson Press as part of the sales team and was the first to establish a beachhead sales office in Mumbai for Thomson Press. When the group entered publishing, this became the very critical ad sales office for Living Media India Ltd, which she headed.
In her long association with the India Today Group, Bhullar had donned several hats – from Editor of Bombay magazine to Publishing Director of ITMB and Marketing Director of the entire company, to the latest role of Executive Director in charge of the events SBU.
Bhullar was instrumental in bringing to India from the Thomson UK the rights to publish a medical journal, called the ‘Journal of Applied Medicine’, which was the Group’s first foray into magazine publishing and a precursor to ‘India Today’ (which was launched in 1975) and all that followed.
She is revered as the ‘Mother Queen’ of Indian print media by advertisers, agencies and the media alike. Bhullar has inspired the key younger generation of leaders in the Group. CEO Ashish Bagga had his first interview as Management Trainee with Bhullar in Mumbai in 1983, at her office in Jolly Maker Chambers. Malcolm Mistry, Publishing Director, was her understudy for over six years and was handpicked by her. Quite a few of the advertising and media professionals in India have at some point in time worked or interacted with Bhullar. She has represented the company on the INS, ABC, NRS, ASCI, MRUC, AIM and many other premier industry bodies.
