India Today changes: Malcolm Mistry moves on; Manoj Sharma is Grp Biz Head
Mistry to turn entrepreneur post March. Sharma will also oversee the sales integration between India Today Merged Entity and Mail Today

India Today Group is set to see some key changes in its senior management. After a stint of 11 years, Malcolm Mistry, Publishing Director, India Today Merged Entity, has decided to move on.
Mistry will soon don on the entrepreneurial hat. His last day with the company is March 30, 2012. More details on his next venture would be announced then.
Following this, India Today Group is making a key change in its structure. In its current form, India Today Merged Entity (ITME) comprises the flagship brand India Today across its various language editions, the business publications of the group and Reader’s Digest. ITME was put in place two years ago with the objective of integrating the sales force of publications with similar advertiser profile. ITME is now adding Mail Today to its portfolio of brands.
Manoj Sharma, who had recently taken over from Rahul Thappa as Business Head with Mail Today, will now take over as Group Business Head of ITME. He will also oversee the sales integration between ITME and Mail Today with a view to draw synergies between the brands. Varun Kohli will assume direct charge of the Ad Sales function of Mail Today as Associate Publisher and will continue to report to Manoj Sharma.
Sharma continues to report to Ashish Bagga, CEO, India Today Group.
Explaining the changed structure, Bagga said, “The rationale is similar to the guiding principle that ITME was based on. We had realised then that over 70 per cent of advertisers and agencies were the same for India Today mega brand, the business publications of the group and Reader’s Digest. It had made sense for us to align these three together. By integrating, we realised we had a huge fighting force that could be cross leveraged across verticals – it instantly tripled our sales force on these publications. Since that was successful, we planned to do that with Mail Today as well. It is important to maximise every sales resource in terms of revenue generating capability and we believe this model allows us that.”
Another consequent change is that the publishing headquarter for ITME would now move to Delhi from Mumbai.
Sharma has served with the India Today Group for over 18 years in multiple stints, with an overall experience of 22 years. He has exposure in print and television media sales and has worked for companies and brands like The Times of India, Network18 and India TV.

Jha has experience working at several reputable organisations in crucial roles. A well-recognised voice, he has donned various hats being a radio jockey, a news anchor, voiceover artist, producer, programming head, and a talk show host, stated a release.
Ananta Natha Jha will play a key role in reshaping UnCut and rechanneling focus towards the younger generation with a focus on high-quality content, the release stated.
UnCut is a Gen-Z/millennials-focused vertical of ABP Network.

CNBC’s Latha Venkatesh to “transition” out of daily anchoring schedule
Venkatesh is taking the ‘break’ from August 1 to plan son’s wedding
Latha Venkatesh, Executive Editor with CNBC-TV18, will be “transitioning” out of the daily anchoring schedule and play much more of a supervisory role.” The arrangement will come into effect on August 1.
Venkatesh will continue to be the Executive Editor, and “only take a break from the daily activities.” She will be taking the break to plan her son’s wedding.
“Latha mam has kept the fire burning for almost two decades. She has brought her heart to work every day. Never once complained about the long hours, the stress, the pressure, because she loves what she does with a passion that is undeniable. As is the case with her, she doesn’t do anything half-heartedly and so as she gets ready to plan a BIG FAT INDIAN WEDDING for her son, she is keen to free up her time and mind space to focus on a wonderful life altering moment,” read an internal communication at CNBC accessed by exchange4media.
“She will continue to do her special shows and come in to do links/interviews etc even on daily shows as necessary and appropriate. But from Aug 1, she will not be anchoring Bazaar as a regular feature or fixing the show etc,” the read the communication.
Sonal Bhutra will take over from Venkatesh.
