M&C Saatchi India has appointed Suranjan Das as Executive Director. In his new role, Das will be heading M&C Saatchi’s Mumbai office. Das had recently quit Fortune Communications Ltd, a wholly owned subsidiary of JWT India, where he was Senior VP & Managing Partner.
Raja Awasthi, a journalist with The Economics Times, has been appointed as Media Advisor to Union Minister of Steel Vir Bhadra Singh. Awasthi has 16 years’ experience in the media industry of which 12 years have been with The Economic Times. He has also worked with some news agencies.
Radio Mantra, Jagran Group’s FM venture, has roped in Narendra Tripathi as Chief Operating Officer. Tripathi has taken charge from October 9, 2009. He will be reporting to Rahul Gupta, Director, Radio Mantra. Prior to this Tripathi was with NDTV Media as Senior Vice President.
Radio Mantra, Jagran Group’s radio venture, has roped in Narendra Tripathi as its Chief Operating Officer. Prior to this, Tripathi was the Senior Vice President of NDTV Media for two years. The move marks a return of sorts for Tripathi, as prior to joining NDTV Media in 2007, he was with Radio Mantra.
NetworkPlay has announced some structural changes to better facilitate the need of the market in their sales organisation. As part of these changes, Harmeet Singh Arora has been brought in as VP - Network Sales. He will be reporting to Rammohan Sundaram, Founder and CEO of NetworkPlay.in.
aMap has made some senior level organisational changes recently. Joseph Eapen, who till recently was CEO of aMapDigital, aMap’s exclusive panel for DTH homes, has replaced Amit Varma as CEO of aMap. Eapen will continue to head aMapDigital too. Varma, meanwhile, will be moving on from the organisation.
MK Venu has joined Financial Express as Managing Editor. He moves from Economic Times, where he was Editor, Opinion.
NewsX has appointed Monjit Sharma as Head of Sales. Sharma joins the news channel after a stint as Director of Sales at MTV. He will be based in Delhi and will lead the regional sales teams at Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore.
After a stint of two years, Sunil Dutt Samsung India’s Country Head, Mobile Business, has bid adieu to the organisation. Dutt is currently serving his notice period and his last day at Samsung would be October 31, 2009. Confirming the development, Dutt informed that his next destination would be a newer domain with Hewlett Packard, where he is joining as Vice President and Country Head for the Personal Systems Group.
Jet Airways has appointed Nikos Kardassis as Acting Chief Executive Officer of the company. He will be taking charge from October 15. Kardassis brings with him a wealth of experience in both aviation industry and financial services. He replaces Wolfgang Prock-Schauer, who has resigned as CEO of Jet Airways, to rejoin his family in Europe. Kardassis began his career with TWA holding various finance and operational positions. He has over two decades of extensive leadership and business management experience. He joined Merrill Lynch from General Electric, where he served as President for GECAT. In the past 18 months, Kardassis has served as Senior Vice President, The Americas, for Jet Airways, and has been closely involved in the restructuring, cost/ network management of the airline and has been working as Senior Advisor to the Chairman on both Finance and Strategy.
Saritaa Joshi has joined The Ideas Box, a content and activation company in the kids and family space, as Vice President - Programming. Prior to this, she was Programming Head at Miditech Delhi. Joshi brings to the table more than 20 years’ experience across varied genres in TV programming – viz. documentaries, news, lifestyle, social messaging and the GEC space. She was also an integral part of the launch of IBN7 channel as Programming & Promo Head, as well as the launch of Big FM as Programming Head (Delhi). She has also been involved in projects with Zee News, Sahara Samay, Star One, NDTV Imagine, TV Today Network, BBC (WST), Doordarshan, etc. In addition to her ventures in India, she has also been consulting Creative Director with Gulf Digital Images (Dubai).
Ogilvy & Mather Asia Pacific has appointed Juggi Ramakrishnan to the newly created position of Deputy Regional Executive Creative Director. He will be reporting to Eugene Cheong effective February 1, 2010. Working closely with Cheong, Ramakrishnan joins an impressive line-up of creative talent at Asia’s most awarded creative agency. His ability to deliver big ideas for big clients and work across all channels gives Ramakrishnan a unique perspective when developing 360 degree ideas.
Samar Halarnkar, Managing Editor, Hindustan Times, is stepping down from his managerial role and will be focussing on writing full time for the paper from December 1, 2009. He will be redesignated Editor-at-large at Hindustan Times. Halarnkar has 20 years’ experience in journalism and has worked at The Times of India, the India Today Group and The Indian Express prior to joining Hindustan Times in 2005. Before being made the Managing Editor at HT, he was Resident Editor of the paper in Mumbai.
Vijay Jacob, Senior Vice President - South and Head of Bates141 Chennai has put in his papers. Jacob, who is currently serving his notice period, will end his four-year stint with the agency by the end of this month.
Albert Almeida has joined digital and mobile entertainment company Hungama Digital Media as Chief Operating Officer for their Mobile Business. Till recently, Almeida was Executive Vice President and Business Head of Sony Entertainment Television (SET). He will be responsible for Hungama’s domestic and international mobile business covering entertainment, platforms and applications businesses.
NDTV Profit’s Shivnath Thukral has moved out of the media space and has joined the Essar Group as its Group President – Corporate Branding & Strategic Initiatives. The development would be effective October 12, 2009. Essar officials have confirmed the development to exchange4media.
Beefing up its top management, NewsX has made a slew of key appointments. Rahul Kulshreshtha has been appointed as Consultant for Technical Operations, Shamya DasGupta has been roped in as Sports Editor, Nitin Sukhija has joined as Entertainment and Lifestyle Editor, Monica Malik is Executive Producer, while Sukarno Sen has joined as Bureau Chief in Kolkata.
After a stint of nine years, Jeffrey Crasto, President and Chief Investment Officer, MPG, India and South East Asia, has decided to move on. Crasto confirmed the development to exchange4media and added that October 7, 2009 would be his last day with the company. He didn’t divulge much on his next destination, but said that he would be looking at the broadcasting space.
Shivnath Thukral, who was recently elevated as Business Editor and Adviser Strategy at NDTV, has quit the organisation. Thukral has been with the company for 14 years, and was heading the group’s business channel, NDTV Profit, as Managing Editor for the last two years. Confirming the development to exchange4media, Thukral stated that he was now breaking from the media domain and his next venture would be in the corporate space.
Natasha Malhotra has been named Vice President and General Manager, Walt Disney Television International India. In this role, she will oversee Disney’s multiplex of channels in India. Malhotra will be reporting to Mahesh Samat, Senior Vice President and Managing Director, Walt Disney Company India. She succeeds Antoine Villeneuve, who will return to his native France after a two-year term in India.
