Big FM has announced its first ad rate hike since its inception in 2006. The reason is the performance of the channel according to RAM data. The rates have been revised in the six metros varying from 5 per cent to 41 per cent. The new rates would be applicable from December 3, 2007.

Some of the topline findings of the Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) suggest that when the numbers of the three cities – Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi – are compared, Delhi has the highest number of listeners in the 25-34 age group and is the most fragmented radio market. RAM also shows that the 20-24 year age group is the lowest TG on radio and that more males tune in to the radio than females.

BBC has entered into a partnership with Maharashtra’s 94.3 Tomato FM, which would allow BBC’s programming to be available to Tomato FM listeners in Kolhapur, and shortly also to Tomato FM listeners in Sangli.

Despite being the currency of the television medium, TAM Media Research is constantly defending allegations of the data being inadequate. Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) is not experiencing a much different fate either. While data users like media agencies and broadcasters assert that they would use RAM, there are some who are questioning the diary methodology.

Almost all radio stations that have subscribed to Radio Audience Measurement (RAM), and even some that have not, are looking at the data closely to see which filter would allow them to be the ‘number one’ player in a particular target, daypart or market. So far, media planners, buyers and advertisers have seen this syndrome only for television, but with RAM, radio, too, becomes ‘competitive’.

Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) data, which was released late on October 31 night, had good news for most FM stations. However, one station that didn’t support it from the word go has been Radio Mirchi. The reason behind this is the use of the Diary Methodology for RAM. Now with the release of the data, Mirchi is questioning some of the findings.

The Radio Audience Measurement (RAM) data has gone live. Some of the first findings have good news for most FM stations. Where Radio City has come out as a strong contender for the SEC AB, Big FM is a clear number one in Bangalore. Red FM has done well in Mumbai, while Radio Mirchi, too, has some good numbers to show.
