Big FM has allocated approximately 45 per cent of its marketing budget to street level marketing as compared to 30-odd per cent its early stages. The latest data from RAM shows that Radio Mirchi continues to lead in Kolkata followed by Big FM. Kolkata based FM stations Friends FM and Aamar FM fight for the next slots. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India, has signed a Grant of Permission Agreement for establishing, maintaining and operating a Community Radio Station at Wayanad Social Service Society, Mananthvady in Kerala. The community radio station is scheduled to operate in three months time.
Radio Mirchi has maintained its lead, with a significant margin, in Delhi, as per the latest RAM data. Fever FM also has some cheering from the recent numbers, as the channel competes closely with AIR FM2 Gold for the number two spot in the city.
According to RAM data for all people 12 plus, all place of listening, from week 1 to 21, the Mumbai FM market has thrown up quite a few surprises. The fluctuations in the market have left no clear winner, thus signifying that perhaps the days of a single market leader are over. Nevertheless Red FM, the once dominant FM station in Mumbai, still leads the pack.

Adlabs Films has got the Government nod to demerge its radio business. Following this, Big FM will be transferred to Reliance Unicom Ltd, post which the company will get listed in the BSE and the NSE. Reliance Unicom will issue shares in the ratio of 1:1. The sixth Mirchi Kaan Awards winners were announced in Mumbai on the evening of May 8, 2009. McCann Erickson walked away with Agency of the Year award, bagging 21 awards, including ‘Copywriter of the Year’ award. Leo Burnett won 14 awards, while Mudra bagged eight awards, including the ‘Crystal Award’.
