It is learnt that within two years of its launch in the Chandigarh market, Hindi daily Hindustan is soon going to withdraw its Chandigarh edition. Rashtriya Sahara is set to further expand its footprint in Uttar Pradesh with the launch of its Banaras edition in November this year. After Lucknow, Kanpur and Gorakhpur, this will be the fourth edition of the newspaper in UP. The Banaras edition will have a total of 16 pages, of which 10 would be colour pages, along with a four-page supplement everyday.

The situation is not a very happy one for publications in Jammu & Kashmir as per the IRS Q2 2010 results. All the top four dailies have seen de-growth in this quarter. Meanwhile, magazines have witnessed an unusual situation where the top three magazines have remained stagnant. Surprisingly, there is no mention of monitoring of Urdu dailies in J&K in the IRS survey.

The state has once again witnessed a huge difference in AIR (Average Issue Readership) between the top two players. The decline story of magazines has continued in Madhya Pradesh as well, with four of the top five magazines seeing negative growth in AIR.

Three of the top five newspapers and two of the top three magazines have seen growth in average issue readership (AIR) in this quarter. NavBharat Times has emerged as the clear leader despite a negative growth in AIR in Mumbai. India Today (Hindi) leads among the Hindi magazines in the Mumbai market with a robust growth of 34.61 per cent in AIR.

With a decent growth in Average Issue Readership (AIR) in IRS Q2 2010, NBT is leading the Delhi and Delhi NCR markets among all Hindi dailies. Hindustan is ranked second in both Delhi and Delhi NCR markets, however, the third position sees a close fight between Punjab Kesari and Dainik Jagran in both the markets.

As per the IRS Q2 2010 results, Urdu daily Inquilab is the top publication in the domain, registering a growth of 3.76 per cent in AIR (Average Issue Readership). While top two dailies have witnessed growth in AIR, Urdu Times, which is ranked fourth, has seen a negative growth of 17.24 per cent.
