Indian Readership Survey (IRS) 2006, Round 2 has been declared on Tuesday based on the average issue readership of the publications. The top three dailies in terms of readership are Dainik Jagran, Dainik Bhaskar and Hindustan. Among magazines, the top three names are Saras Salil, Vanitha (Malayalam) and India Today (English).

A high 33 per cent growth seen in advertising in Supplements in Jan-Aug ’06 over Jan-Aug ’05 while Main Issue advertising saw a 15 per cent rise. Educational Institutions topped advertising in Main Issue as well as in Supplements.

The Times of India Group has inked a Business Cooperation and Arrangement Agreement (BCAA) with Sandesh Ltd, publishers of Gujarati daily, Sandesh. The Times of India Group has also picked up 12 per cent preferential equity of Sandesh. This is fresh equity and would not dilute the promoters’ stake in Sandesh.

Bhaskar Group made its foray into the Punjab market with the launch of the Jalandhar and Amritsar editions of Dainik Bhaskar on October 8. Dainik Bhaskar is the first newspaper in Punjab to have an all-colour edition from day one. It may, however, be noted that Punjab Kesari also turned colour from September 24, 2006.
