Venkatesh Kini has been appointed Vice-President, Coca Cola India. He replaces Vikas Gupta, who had quit as VP-Marketing, Coca Cola India, on June 30, 2006. The appointment is effective from September 1, 2006. Kini moves from Atlanta, where he was VP, Sprite and Flavors Brand Business Unit in Coca-Cola North America.

An increasing number of bank customers have started using the ATMs not only to replenish their wallets but also to recharge their mobile pre-paid connections. The service commenced in 2005. By the end of last year, banks were witnessing around 2000 transactions per day. This year, the number of transactions has gone up three times to around 6,000 per day.

Regional language publications had 41% share in overall advertising in the 1st half of 2006, with Tamil language newspapers garnering the maximum share of 24%. As a category, educational institutions topped advertising in regional newspapers. Significantly, advertising in Supplements saw a 7% rise in 2005 over 2004.

Jagran Prakashan Ltd, publishers of ‘Dainik Jagran’, has reported net revenues of Rs 136.67 crore for Q1 FY07, an increase of 20 per cent over the corresponding quarter last year. The net profit was at Rs 22.89 crore FY2006-07, a sharp increase from Rs 4.29 crore in the previous fiscal.

e4m had recently conducted an online poll where readers were asked to give their opinion on the draft Broadcast Bill. The results are in and an overwhelming 86 per cent of the respondents have given the thumbs down to the Bill. “This seems like an attempt to throttle the media,” was the strong feeling that emerged.

In a media scene dominated with proliferation of media offerings, consolidations do seem to be the logical route forward. Media conglomerates like Omnicom have made it clear that one way they see growth in the country is via acquisition. The Publicis group has seen some action, too, in this context. Now Tom Bernardin, CEO and Chairman, Leo Burnett Worldwide, reiterates that the hunt is still on.
