When I had first gone to China, I was of the impression, ‘fine, this is a big market, but it is going to be simple because everyone speaks the same language’. Of course, that naïve notion didn’t last long – eventually, I wrote a presentation titled ‘500 Chinas’. It is a difficult market because of its heterogeneous nature. Sure it has a national language, Mandarin, but it is like India, where much of the South can’t speak Hindi.
