Madison Media is ending the year on a high. The agency has bagged the media AOR business of Jagran Group. The size of the account is estimated to be Rs 10 crore. Recently, the Jagran Group has been in the news following the announcement that Ireland’s Independent News and Media is set to acquire a 26 per cent stake in it.

After private FM radio, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has got active on the satellite radio front. Till date, there are no policies or guidelines for satellite radio players in India. The regulator has asked for industry inputs, by January 31, on issues relating to this service. The objective is to prepare a policy framework.

Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) is booming in India. In 2002, it was a half-a-billion dollar industry employing 35,000 people. The ad industry's perception of BPO seems limited to call centres that work through the night to support inbound and outbound customer service in the Western markets. This limited perception is mainly responsible for Indian advertising industry's lack of awareness of and interest in the BPO opportunity.

The Coca-Cola regional business of Hyderabad (largely comprising of Thums Up) has headed towards Rediffusion DY&R. As per sources within the industry, the account size is estimated to be within the region of Rs 8 crore. This part of the business was earlier under the purview of Leo Burnett.

We are an industry that is condemned to this fate -- of having to suffer the consequences that the market structure alone determines. I hope there will be people with open mindsets who come and head agencies. I think we will perhaps see newer collaborations taking place. As of now, I don’t see that happening.
