A robust motorcycle market, surging scooter sales and modest moped market, pushed two-wheeler sales up by 13.1 per cent during the first half of this fiscal. A total of 28.7 lakh two-wheelers were sold during April-September 2004 compared to 25.4 lakh units sold during the year ago period, data compiled by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) showed.

Competition is hotting up in the plasma and projection CTV segment. For, even as Sony is planning to focus at spurring more volumes of ‘Sony’ projection CTVs by expanding its distribution network by an additional 100%, Videocon is planning a brand extension for ‘Toshiba’ in the high-end range from Projection CTVs to include Plasma CTVs, as well. Meanwhile, Mirc Electronics too has charted out aggressive marketing plans to spur more volumes of its plasma CTVs to cater to the home segment.
