MindShare is the Ad Age’s Global Media Agency of the year. It was no easy feat: MindShare was expected to win. Industry observers agree that the WPP Group media agency held the upper hand. For pulling off its stunning victory, Advertising Age names Starcom MediaVest Group its 2003 U.S. Media Agency of Year. SMG faced tough competition for the Ad Age honor but tipped the scales largely due to the Coca-Cola consolidation victory (SMG already had Coke's planning account).

The Delhi-based Ozone Ayurvedics, better known for its `Nomarks' skin cream, is extending the profile of its flagship brand to a series of product categories this year, even as its other products have been put on the backburner. According to company sources, wet and dry face packs, soap-less face washes, scrubs and body lotions would be introduced over the next couple of months. These products would be mass-priced and would sport the Nomarks brand name.

In a clear bid to grab a larger slice of the mass market, Reliance Infocomm has announced the launch of its pre-paid service — RIM Prepaid. The company is attempting to lower the price barrier for its new customers. Reliance is launching the pre-paid service with seven handset models and the cost of the handset is bundled with the tariff.

Ahead of elections, Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa has realised that the new TV distribution technology - conditional access system (CAS) - can play a spoilsport. So, for the first time, the chief minister has shot off a letter to information and broadcasting minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, requesting him to stop CAS in Chennai. Chennai was the only metro to roll out CAS way back in September, when others cited some reason or the other to put it on hold.

India-Pakistan cricket telecast hopes are still alive for public broadcaster Doordarshan. After his meeting with a sacked official of the Pakistan Cricket Board a few days ago to negotiate the TV rights deal for the series, Prasar Bharati CEO KS Sarma sent a letter to the PCB on Monday. Mr Sarma’s plea in the letter: Allow DD the terrestrial rights to cover the India-Pakistan cricket series slated for next month. And, allow it live!

Starcom Worldwide is now the ‘media evaluation agency’ for a Bollywood production and distribution company called ‘The Factory’. With immediate effect, Starcom Worldwide will evaluate all proposals made to The Factory for all its movie-related products and provide suitable recommendations. Incidentally, The Factory is the new name for the merged entity between producer-director Ramgopal Varma’s Varma Corporation and K Sera Sera.

Further to our News Flash earlier today, Group M in an official communiqué to exchange4media.com has confirmed the formation of a MindShare Fulcrum-like media outfit dedicated to LG Electronics business. The new outfit will be called WPP Team LG and based in Delhi. WPP Team LG is the second unit within Group M built around the needs of a single client, after MindShare Fulcrum was dedicated to Hindustan Levers media business.
