Tribute: Shri A.G. Krishnamurthy – A True Visionary in the World of Advertising: Dr. R Venkata Kesavan

AGK had an immaculate vision to offer something back to the industry by way of providing a much needed online knowledge sharing tool, by way of aggregating all types of agency creative contents writes Dr. R. Venkata Kesavan,  Head of Times Archives and Knowledge Centre, The Times Group, Mumbai.

Late AGK Sir deserves all the tributes and accolades that have been showered on him by the advertising, marketing and media industry fraternity since his passing away on Feb 5, 2016. I had privilege to work with Shri AGK very closely and learnt a lot from him. I was really very fortunate, that in a small way, I could help in fulfilling Shri AGK’s yet another unique dream for the Indian advertising industry---- setting up an Online Advertising Library, called MAGINDIA.COM (Mudra Advertising Gallerie India).

From Mudra, apart from MICA, Shri AGK had an immaculate vision to offer something back to the industry by way of providing a much needed online knowledge sharing tool, by way of aggregating all types of agency creative contents (print ads, TVCs, Radio Jingles, Outdoor hoardings and POP materials, etc.) along with related market information on a range of products, services and brands, and sharing these specially compiled information resources through an online website with digital archiving facility as well as regular current content updates.

That’s when I had joined Mudra in 1999, initiated the MAGINDIA.COM project by closely working with Shri AGK and drawing high-level professional inputs from other Sr. Pros in Mudra-- Alan D'Souza and Subrata Bhowmick.

By 2000, we had successfully launched the website MAGINDIA.COM. Then, MAGINDIA.COM was one-of-its-kind websites in the World, in terms of having its rich advertising archival contents and usefulness to the advertising, marketing and media professionals. As a matter of fact, then MAGINDIA.COM, as a niche advertising and marketing industry knowledge sharing website, was widely used by thousands of individuals and hundreds of organizations not only from India, but also from abroad.

Under the dynamic leadership, visionary guidance and advice of Shri AGK, we had kept on updating the website with new contents (in multi-media format – in an era even much before YouTube, Facebook and Twitter, etc. were in existence) on a daily basis and ensured that MAGINDIA.COM soon became the one-point online source for knowledge sharing in the advertising domain in 24x7. Within in a year of its launch, by 2001, MAGINDIA.COM had already won several International Web Awards for its content quality, depth of its digital archives and user-friendliness. Almost all major Indian Publications also gave wider coverage to MAGIDIA.COM and appreciated its contributions to the Industry.

Ever since MAGINDIA.COM was launched, like MICA, Shri AGK took a great pride in this product, as well. On every possible occasion, he fondly recalled MAGINDIA.COM’s unique contribution to the Industry, particularly years later, when he had penned and published a series of books such as, The Invisible CEO; Desi Dream Merchants; If you can dream ..., as part of the Author’s profile, he rightfully took credit for establishing the Indian’s first online advertising library and made a special mention on MAGINDIA.COM. (Note: Mudra used to maintain this website online almost for a decade, after its launch).

I can go on adding more such accomplishments of Shri AGK. I am afraid that India will never get another AGK (an Achiever par excellence, a Great human being, and a very knowledgeable person). As Jr. Colleagues of Shri AGK, we had learnt a lot from his life and professional work. Most of the learning’s will remain with us forever and the prime ones being, taking pride in being an Indian; cherishing and celebrating the Indian culture and values; believing in ourselves; and being the best in our chosen fields.

Thank you AGK Sir!.While we will be missing your physical presence forever, we shall carry forward your professional legacy in our rightful actions in the years to come.

(Dr. R. Venkata Kesavan, Formerly Head, MAGINDIA.COM, Mudra, Ahmedabad is Currently Head of Times Archives and Knowledge Centre, The Times Group, Mumbai ).
