Not content with creating amazing ads, Prasoon Joshi, Chairman of McCann Erickson in India, channeled his creativity into writing lyrics. And thank God for that! We’ve had a mind boggling range of emotions from Joshi – from ‘Hum Tum’ to ‘Rang De Basanti’ to Taare Zameen Par’. Hence, Prasoon being conferred the Special Jury Award at the NDTV Indian of the Year Awards 2008, was a fitting tribute to this versatile and gifted personality. The Award is a testimony to Prasoon’s creative talents, versatility and his literary understanding.

There is hardly any person who is not moved by the emotions expressed in the song ‘Maa’ fro ‘Taare Zameen Par’. Such are the powerful lyrics that they bring tears to the eyes whenever one listens to it. It is for this very ode to the mother that Prasoon bagged the Special Jury Award.

When asked by the host at the NDTV Indian of the Year Awards, what next after advertising and music, and what inspired him to write this song – whether it was his daughter who was his inspiration for the song, Prasoon chuckled and quipped, “No one congratulated my mother saying ‘mubarak ho, aapke ghar copywriter paida hua hai’, when I was born”, trying to make a point that stereotyping him would not be doing justice to his talent and ambition and what lay in store for him in future.

Prasoon further shared “I do what I want to and in a way to express myself, and one continuously hones one’s skills in the areas one wishes to excel in. I wrote the song keeping in mind the movie and script of ‘Taare Zameen Par; and one does look at the requirements of the movie.”

Prasoon is no stranger to the world of lyric writing and awards. The songs he wrote in 2008 for ‘Taare Zameen Par’, ‘Thoda Pyaar Thoda Magic’ and ‘Ghajini’ are on everyone’s lips. In 2009, the songs of upcoming movie ‘Delhi 6’ are already making waves.

Going a bit back in time, there have been chartbusters for Shubha Mudgal’s ‘Ab ke Sawaan’ and Silk Route’s ‘Boondein’; songs like ‘Gustakhiyan Hain’ from Amitabh Bachchan-starrer ‘Anakhen’, as well as the title song for Raj Kumar Santsohi’s ‘Lajja’. Prasoon has left his indelible mark on all these musical pieces.

Add to this the success of ‘Hum Tum’ and you realise the versatility of this gifted lyricist. As tribute to his talent, Prasoon was awarded the Screen Best Lyricist Award in 2005 for the title song ‘Sanso me’ from ‘Hum Tum’.

Then came Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s masterpiece ‘Black’, where Prasoon penned the lone song in the movie. A prodigious task in itself, because trying to capture the mindset and experiences of a deaf, blind and mute girl into words was expectedly an extremely complex task. A lot of sensitivity was called for, which is echoed beautifully in the song ‘Haan maine choo kar dekha hai’.

‘Rang De Basanti’, with ample creative license from Rakyesh Mehra, Prasoon and AR Rehman collaborated to simply create magic this time around, where the songs beautifully reflect the myriad shades and moods of the movie. Be it the robust pulsating title song to the sonorous ‘Roobaroo’, a mellifluous ‘Tu Bin baataye’ to a rousing ‘Lalkaar’, ‘Rang De Basanti’ traverses varied musical and lyrical landscapes.

Prasoon is probably busy scripting and composing another blockbuster, which will move our hearts and minds. Cheers to you and your talent Prasoon, we are very proud of you that you are one of us.

Advertising professional and art collector Swapan Seth has announced the launch of his new book COOL. The book is described as "a ready reckoner to the hip and the happening, of the known and the very unknown."

The book is a reflection of the author's "eclectic taste across categories: from boltholes to exotic hideaways."

COOL has been published by Simon & Schuster India and is available on Amazon.

Seth is an ad veteran with a long and illustrious career in the industry. He became the youngest-ever Creative Director at Clarion at age 24. He was VP at 26 at Trikaya Grey. Two years later, he started his agency Equus.

He writes for publications such as The Economic Times, Hindustan Times and India Today. This is his second book and he has previously published THIS IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY.

e4m Staff Disney Star has signed nine broadcast and digital streaming sponsors for the upcoming Asia Cup.

Charged by Thums Up, Nerolac Paint+, Amazon Pay, Jindal Panther, My11Circle, MRF, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, Wild Stone and Thums Up have come on board for the upcoming tournament.
As reported earlier by exchange4media, Disney Star has sought Rs 26 crore for the co-presenting sponsorship on TV and Rs 30 crore for Disney+ Hotstar.

According to industry sources, the associate sponsorship on Star Sports has been priced at Rs 19.66 crore, whereas for the ‘powered by’ sponsorship on Disney+ Hotstar, the broadcaster is seeking Rs 18 crore.

As per the information available with exchange4media, Disney+ Hotstar has three sponsorship tiers-- co-presenting (Rs 30 crore), powered by (Rs 18 crore) and associate sponsorship (Rs 12 crore). The broadcaster is offering an estimated reach of 120-140 million for co-presenting sponsors, 90-100 million for powered by and 60-70 million for associate sponsorship.

A spot buy for 10 seconds has been priced at Rs 25 lakh for the India vs Pakistan matches, while for the non-India matches, the ad rate for 10 second is Rs 2.3 lakh. The India matches plus the final for ODIs has been priced at Rs 17 lakh per 10 seconds.

Asia Cup is scheduled to be held from 30 August, 2023, to September 17, 2023.
