Effies 2010: Shortlist announced; Ogilvy India, Lowe Lintas, Mudra score highest in shortlists from India
A total of 81 entries for the Effies Awards 2010 have been shortlisted from the 276 entries received this year. From India this year, Ogilvy India, Lowe Lintas and Mudra have scored the maximum entries in the shortlist for Effies 2010. It may be noted that the total number of entries received this year is nearly double that of last year (148 in 2009).

A total of 81 entries for the Effies Awards 2010 have been shortlisted from the 276 entries received this year. From India this year, Ogilvy India, Lowe Lintas and Mudra have scored the maximum entries in the shortlist for Effies 2010. It may be noted that the total number of entries received this year is nearly double that of last year (148 in 2009).
This year too Ogilvy India has made it to the list with the highest number of shortlisted entries from India – 17. However, there is stiff competition this time with Lowe Lintas scoring 16 shortlisted entries. Mudra follows with 14 shortlisted entries.
The other agencies from India that have been shorlisted include JWT India (10 shortlisted entries), BBDO India (eight shortlisted entries), Bates 141 (four shortlisted entries), DraftFCB Ulka (three shortlisted entries), Contract Advertising and Creativeland Asia (two shortlisted entries each).
McCann Erickson, Rediffusion Y&R, Dentsu Communications, Publicis Ambience and Grey Worldwide have one shortlisted entry each.
In its 15th year, Effies is geared up for a bigger show. As reported earlier, the Effies committee has increased the number of categories from seven to 15 this year. They have also introduced a new category called the David v/s Goliath Award.
The first round of judging was held on November 16, 2010, while the second round of judging will follow on November 24, 2010. Case study presentations of the shortlisted entries will be held on December 3, 2010.
Effies worldwide involves a close judging process. The Awards exist to provide information regarding effectiveness and results in marketing communications. Its main priority is to educate and share with the industry (and all interested parties) its wisdom and definition of effectiveness by spotlighting great ideas that work and encouraging thoughtful dialogue about the ever-changing world of marketing communications.
As is known, the Effie Awards were started in the US and have been in operation for the last 38 years. The Bombay Ad Club was the first club to get an Effie affiliation in Asia. Dorab Sopariwala, a renowned name in the world of research and analysis, was the Proctor for the Awards.
This year, the Awards will be held on December 7, 2010 at the Turf Club, Mumbai. Times Global Broadcasting Co Ltd is the principal sponsor for the event, while Marico is the Associate Sponsor. Brand Equity has joined hands to give away Bravery Awards, while Marico will give the Uncommon Sense Award.

Swapan Seth's new book 'COOL' is out
The book is a reflection of the author's 'eclectic taste across categories'
Advertising professional and art collector Swapan Seth has announced the launch of his new book COOL. The book is described as "a ready reckoner to the hip and the happening, of the known and the very unknown."
The book is a reflection of the author's "eclectic taste across categories: from boltholes to exotic hideaways."
COOL has been published by Simon & Schuster India and is available on Amazon.
Seth is an ad veteran with a long and illustrious career in the industry. He became the youngest-ever Creative Director at Clarion at age 24. He was VP at 26 at Trikaya Grey. Two years later, he started his agency Equus.
He writes for publications such as The Economic Times, Hindustan Times and India Today. This is his second book and he has previously published THIS IS ALL I HAVE TO SAY.

Disney Star signs 9 sponsors for Asia Cup PAK

e4m Staff Disney Star has signed nine broadcast and digital streaming sponsors for the upcoming Asia Cup.
Charged by Thums Up, Nerolac Paint+, Amazon Pay, Jindal Panther, My11Circle, MRF, Samsung Galaxy Z Flip5, Wild Stone and Thums Up have come on board for the upcoming tournament.
As reported earlier by exchange4media, Disney Star has sought Rs 26 crore for the co-presenting sponsorship on TV and Rs 30 crore for Disney+ Hotstar.
According to industry sources, the associate sponsorship on Star Sports has been priced at Rs 19.66 crore, whereas for the ‘powered by’ sponsorship on Disney+ Hotstar, the broadcaster is seeking Rs 18 crore.
As per the information available with exchange4media, Disney+ Hotstar has three sponsorship tiers-- co-presenting (Rs 30 crore), powered by (Rs 18 crore) and associate sponsorship (Rs 12 crore). The broadcaster is offering an estimated reach of 120-140 million for co-presenting sponsors, 90-100 million for powered by and 60-70 million for associate sponsorship.
A spot buy for 10 seconds has been priced at Rs 25 lakh for the India vs Pakistan matches, while for the non-India matches, the ad rate for 10 second is Rs 2.3 lakh. The India matches plus the final for ODIs has been priced at Rs 17 lakh per 10 seconds.
Asia Cup is scheduled to be held from 30 August, 2023, to September 17, 2023.
