Ogilvy India, Lowe Lintas, DraftFCB Ulka and Mudra are among the top winners at the Effie Awards 2010, held in Mumbai on December 7. Piyush Pandey, Joseph George, MG Parameswaran, and Madhukar Kamath share with exchange4media their reactions to the wins…
Piyush Pandey, Executive Chairman and Creative Director, Ogilvy & Mather South Asia, was ecstatic on Ogilvy India winning the Agency of the Year award. Commenting on the wins, he said, “It’s been a great year for us from a creative standpoint. Winning the Agency of the Year award is the testimony to the fact that we’ve been doing some great work in the past one year. Plus, what is satisfying is that we have won comprehensively, winning a lot of metals across categories.”
Pandey further said, “I must mention that we are fortunate to work with great brands like Vodafone and many others – the list goes on! They are very supportive in taking up ideas and campaigns which are truly outstanding.”
On his expectations for the next year, he said, “We hope to continue the good work. We have a passionate bunch of people who want to win awards, and at the same time ensure their work contributes significantly to the brand’s performance in the marketplace.:
Lowe Lintas, which ranked second in the list of agencies, bagged 12 metals with a total of 90 points. Commenting on the agency’s wins, Joseph George, CEO, Lowe Lintas, said, “Effies as an award show is very important for Lowe Lintas since we do not enter in other shows. We are pleased that we’re placed second, and I hope that next year, we will be the No. 1 agency.”
On winning the Grand Effie, MG Parameswaran, CEO, DraftFCB Ulka, said, “Tata Docomo is a fantastic case study because very rarely a brand, which comes in as No. 8 in most markets, ends up going to the top – Docomo did that. The combination of a very well-defined brand with a very, very clear brand voice, very well orchestrated media campaign and breakthrough advertising worked. The advertising presented the brand not as a value brand but as a smart, useful, energetic brand with the positioning – ‘Do The New’. I think the client was brave enough to go with a lot of dramatic suggestions which our National Creative Director Chax had and supported with adequate media, and as they say, rest is history.”
Mudra Group, which is placed third in ranking, won a total of 75 points. Explaininf the agency’s success, Madhukar Kamath, Chairman and Managing Director, Mudra Group, said, “It was certainly a very good year for Mudra Group. We’ve moved to the No. 3 slot, which is an achievement, but certainly none of us is celebrating extensively. We are happy, but we are not joyous because we believe we still have to achieve a lot. We began to win a couple of years’ back; we won some metals last year, we won a few more this year and we won’t rest till we get the Agency of the Year award. We want to win the Effie Agency by winning across categories and that’s what we are working towards. We want to create excellence across all our verticals.”
