AD STARS, the only global advertising festival from North Asia concluded with a grand gala in Busan. This year’s Grand Prix, Gold, Silver and Bronze winners, were chosen from 20,645 entries from 60 countries.

Twelve Grand Prix trophies were awarded, however, it eluded India this year. DDB Mudra is the only Indian agency to bag Gold for its campaign ‘Hashtags don’t heal’ for Khalsa Aid under the Print category. The campaign won a total of 1 Gold, 5 Silver, 9 Bronze and 11 Crystal which is the highest amongst Indian agencies.

Speaking on the awards, Rahul Mathew, NCD, DDB Mudra said, “For the second year in a row, AD STARS has been a great outing for us. We had the most number of shortlists from India and we have ended with the most number of metals, as well. And it has been on the back of two of our strongest pieces of work, this year. Both these pieces have done well in all shows that we’ve entered and continue to do so.”

The other Indian agencies to have bagged metals at AD STARS are Cheil India and Dentsu Webchutney. Cheil won 1 Bronze and 3 Crystal awards at the festival, all for Samsung Bixby Voice Forever campaign, while the latter won 1 Crystal for 'Infant CPR' for Jaslok Hospital and Research Centre.

Commenting on the win, Emmanuel Upputuru, CCO, Cheil India says, "AD STARS is becoming an important show in the award circuit. And it is always pleasing to hear about the wins. These wins from our work on Samsung's Bixby is a testimony to our focus on creativity inspired by technology. A healthy addition to Voice Forever's win tally across national and international shows."

Gurbaksh Singh, Chief Creative Technologist, Dentsu Webchutney says, “Infant CPR is an idea that's very close to our heart. The idea helps prepare people for the ultimate emergency. It not just informs them of the difference between adult CPR and infant CPR, but also makes them do it. We are happy that this idea has been recognised at AD STARS as it just shows how we can change the world for better, using technology.”

Globally 9 agencies won the twelve Grand Prix trophies. Impact BBDO, United Arab Emirates’ and ‘The Blank Edition’ won the Media Grand Prix, PR Grand Prix, and Social & Influencer Grand Prix, while FCB New York, USA’s ‘The Whopper Detour’ won the Direct Grand Prix & Mobile Grand Prix. They each also took home the US$10000 prize money for winning the Grand Prix of the Year.

Joanna Monteiro, Chief Creative Officer at FCB Brasil, who was an Executive Judge at AD STARS 2019 says: “I have loved the experience of judging AD STARS because no other awards show gives back to our industry this way – not only is it free to enter AD STARS, but if you win Grand Prix of the Year you are rewarded with US$10,000, which is amazing.”

Hwan-Jin Choi, Chairperson of the AD STARS Executive Committee, says, “AD STARS is a festival where creativity and technology converge. Its core value is ‘humanity’ – we exist to share creative solutions that change the world. Many of this year’s winners are contributing to humanity in exciting ways, and we would like to congratulate them for their work.”
