He will be based at Bhaskar Group’s Mumbai office. Nair has over 22 years’ experience. He has held important positions at some of India’s leading media and FMCG companies, including Modicare Ltd, Sterling Holiday Resorts (I) Ltd and The Times of India Group of publications. Prior to joining Bhaskar Group, Nair was associated with Hindustan Unilever Ltd as Regional Business Manager, East Operations.

American Express has appointed Rajesh Saxena as Chief Executive Officer for American Express Banking Corp (AEBC), India. Saxena will head the Country Executive Team and directly manage the international consumer card and small business services, leading the company’s marketing, acquisition, product development and insurance areas. An 18-year veteran of consumer and retail banking, Saxena joins from Citibank, where he had held several senior management positions in Operations, Business Development, Merchant Network, Consumer Credit, Sales, Marketing and general management functions across five geographies including India, Israel, UAE, Turkey and Japan.

The account size has been pegged at Rs 20 crore. The two agencies will work in tandem for the domestic and international leg of the campaign.

Advertising is an ideas business, but the idea needs to be in a relevant context, else the end product – though a creative genius – might not go down well with its TG, which is after all the aim of advertising. Creative agencies get into lot of research on any given category or a brand, but it remains to be discovered where the final vote goes.

The music royalty issue is snowballing into a serious situation, serious enough to bring about a delay in the Phase III of bidding for FM licences. The Information and Broadcasting Ministry is hesitant to announce Phase III of bidding given the current financial situation of the radio industry due to high royalty charges in smaller cities.
